Lately I'm thinking a lot about CREATIVITY , what exactly does creativity mean, can you learn it or are you born with it, why is it important to me etc...CREATIVITY
CREATIVITY is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an idea, a scientific theory, a musical composition, or a joke) or a physical object (such as an invention, a literary work, or a painting).
That's what Wikipedia has to say about the subject!
Well, not exactly my idea of CREATIVITY
The first sentence, I don't agree at all!
You don't need to form something new and definitely not something valuable.
Creativity should give us a sense of meaning, of fulfillment and of happiness!😊
We often think, hat people are either creative/artsy or not, but according to Dr. Brene Brown, we all have the ability to be creative. She believes that creativity is important because 'the only unique contribution that we will make in the world will be born out of our creativity' (Brown, 2010, p 96)
It is sad, that so few people utilize and nurture their creativity. I think this is connected to all the myths around creativity, like that we have to have a special gift or talent to be creative, to paint, write, play music, but no!!!!
That is absolutely wrong! ðŸ˜
Creativity can be present in every little thing we do, cooking, playing with children, solving problems, working with people, caring for people, simply doing your job in a creative way! How you dress yourself, how you keep your home, how you think etc.
Most people are creative, but aren't aware of this fact.
Creativity is simply one possibility to express yourself, where you can bring your unique ideas, experiences, talents and perceptions together.
It is a way of discussing subjects in your own individual language.
Essentially, creativity is one of the key aspects of being human and therefore no surprise, that it appears in almost every facets of humankind.
But it is not as easy as that....there are 2 enemies of creativity!
The first one is your own expectation, which is closely connected to the second one: we compare ourselves to others and their achievements.
Let's think of a moment, when we did something or created something which made us feel happy and content, perhaps even euphoric.... and then compared us to someone else, who did better in our opinion and we feel sad, insecure, worthless, disappointed..., just that we are not good enough!
But we forget one important thing! It is important to be authentic, unique...and creative, in our own way. Why should we judge ourselves and compare ourselves to others?
It doesn't make sense anyway.
How can we compare for example a naive drawing with a modern installation?
How do we know what's the meaning of both works.
How can we measure the value?
Impossible really!
Here is what I learned in my life:
I hope you will let me know your opinion on the subject!
